Young starlet Liam Owen has joined his brother Jack and the Rollinson brothers Calan and Connor at Step 7 club Dodworth Miners Welfare.
The ambidextrous player’s decision, which delights Dodworth manager Darren Young, has brought two of Barnsley’s most popular Non League brotherly duos together at Dodworth.
Owen had originally joined Worsbrough Bridge after leaving Nostell Miners Welfare earlier in the summer, but has now had a change of heart and joined the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior League Premier Division side.
The move allows him to enjoy his football without having to face excessive midweek travelling which NCEL clubs are expected to have to contend with. It is likely the quartet won’t be the only familiar names to quit the NCEL for the leading Step 7 clubs across Yorkshire.
Dodsworth are aiming their league and they to plan to hunt down last season’s runaway leaders Swinton Athletic and Owen, who can play in midfield and upfront, brings significant Non League experience. He’s spent the best part of the last two years playing for Jason Dodworth and Simon Houghton during the pair’s successful stint at Nostell and he also has brief NPL experience with Ossett Town from the Grant Black era.
His brother Jack, who finished last season with Armthorpe Welfare, committed to Dodworth recently, whereas the Rollinson brothers committed earlier this week after leaving Worsbrough.
