Showman and several familiar NCEL names join Silkstone

The Showman Ryan Poskitt and a band of all stars have joined Silkstone United

The Showman Ryan Poskitt and several other familiar names from the Toolstation NCEL will be playing for Sheffield & Hallamshire County Senior League side Silkstone United this season.

Quality ex-Glasshoughton Welfare players such as Mike Brearley, midfielder Lewis Akeister and their old captain Andy McManus, the powerful centre-half who played for Emley last season, have joined. Also registering are ex-Worsbrough Bridge man Jordan Gill and the former Shaw Lane defender Rhys Meynell.

Ex-Glasshoughton, Pontefract Collieries, Nostell Miners Welfare and Worsbrough star Poskitt, 35, and some of his comrades are yet more players who have dropped out of Non League Football this summer because they cannot commit to the excessive midweek travelling clubs are facing in the NCEL.

Silkstone are in Division Two of the County Senior League and they were bottom with only six points on the board when last season was canned.

Now under the management of Daniel Walker (DJ), who with father Darron runs Barnsley Timber Merchants who are sponsoring the club, Silkstone hope this summer is the start of a revolution – especially with the arrival of the Showman and his all stars.

Poskitt said: “It is good to see the ambition DJ and the club has got. The facilities are second to none, there’s a lovely pitch.

“With a few experienced players added to the talent already down, mostly all good friends of mine, I cannot wait to get going.

“Most of the lads live local to the club and it is great for the village. The players are buzzing at training, and friendlies already taken place. It’s a great place to be around and hopefully we’ll be a force to look out for in the near future.”
