Reeves and Rothery get two as Ponte win Bill Cook Trophy

Andy Monkhouse’s Pontefract Collieries celebrate winning the Bill Cook Memorial Trophy following the victory at Glasshoughton

Damian Reeves and Gavin Rothery got doubles as Pontefract Collieries stormed to a 5-1 victory in the pouring rain at arch rivals Glasshoughton Welfare in the Bill Cook Memorial Trophy contest.

Andy Monkhouse’s Colls were dominant in the game played at Leeds Road to celebrate the memory of local Trophy Shop tycoon Cook, who sadly passed a few years ago.

Ponte raced into the lead. New star man Albert Ibrahimi’s shot took a deflection, allowing former Farsley Celtic striker Reeves to head home.

One soon became two as Ibrahimi’s cross found Reeves. Reeves’ effort was saved, Gavin Rothery was on hand to score.

Reeves buried the third when pouncing new centre-half Jack Cawthorn’s knock-down early in the second half.

Ibrahimi then scored himself with a long range effort. Glasshoughton would pull one back through a header, but Rothery hit the fifth to restore the four-goal lead.

Gavin Allott rescued Worksop Town after scoring in the last minute of the 2-2 stalemate at Garforth Town who were on the brink of an impressive victory.

A defensive mistake in the third minute had allowed James Baxendale to fire the Tigers ahead. Worksop had further chances to extend their lead in the first half, but were unable to take them.

Garforth hit back straight after the interval through Joe Colley and the game turned into an end-to-end contest. Worksop wasted a host of chances, and Garforth goalkeeper Toby Wells predictably made at least one top save before the one side went in front with ten minutes with a spectacular top corner strike from Sam Leach.

In the end former Shaw Lane and Frickley striker Allott had the last word.

Three first half goals steered Hemsworth Miners Welfare to victory in the 4-0 defeat of Worsbrough Bridge. Adam Wilson, Tom Davies, Matthew Hughes and Joe Taylor hit the target for Hemsworth.

Brighouse Town superbly battled out a goal-less draw with Football League new-boys Harrogate Town.

Aiden Savory, Dom Riordan and Finn Dovovan’s double helped Emley AFC ease to the 4-1 win over Huddersfield Town U17s.

Nathan Perks’ first half opener for Pickering Town was cancelled out in the second half of the 1-1 draw with Goole AFC.
