Luke McGinnell, a young centre-half, has signed for Penistone Church after impressing Ian Richards during a trial period.
McGinnell is a Barnsley scholarship product and he has been on the books at Walsall.
Richards said: “Luke is a great signing for the club. Since been invited to pre season his attitude, commitment and work ethic have been exemplary. It is credit to him and his character for this but also to the education he has received on the Barnsley Scholar Programme.
“He is a quick, athletic central defender whom has a strong hunger and desire to improve. Once he gets accustomed to this division he is going to be a real asset to the the squad.”
