Cowgill the hero for Ossett

Ossett United defender Jack Cowgill

Ossett United 2-1 Bradford (Park Avenue)

Jack Cowgill headed Ossett United to a late victory as Wayne Benn defeated his old club Bradford (Park Avenue).

The result is the most impressive Ossett have enjoyed during pre-season and is a massive boost to Benn who served Avenue for more-or-less ten years as a player.

His Ossett side fell behind early on as an Avenue trialist found the top corner.

Both teams then caused each other problems. Ex-Hemsworth man Brad Dockerty went close for Avenue, as Ossett’s Tom Greaves, the striker who scored Avenue’s greatest goal of their reformed history.

The Ingfielders responded before half-time. Elliott Harrison picked up the ball on the edge of the penalty area and struck a strike which flew into the top corner.

After a quiet start to the second half, the match livened up towards the end. Cameron Clark, the Ossett left-back, troubled Avenue twice with efforts.

But it was left to former Barnsley and Nostell centre-back Cowgill to be the hero when he rose to head home from a corner in the middle of a melee of bodies.
