Jeff the FA Vase hero for Wells

Hemsworth’s hero Steven Jeff

Steven Jeff’s late low drive was the difference as Hemsworth Miners Welfare edged a 3-2 victory over Armthorpe Welfare in the end-to-end FA Vase first qualifying round tie.

The Wells enjoyed the perfect start as Leyton Swaine fired them ahead in the second minute.

Armthorpe did not take long to respond. Adam Baskerville skipped away from his marker into the box and crossed for Paul Sherburn who saw his scuffed shot blocked by goalkeeper Brett Souter before Luke Williams was on hand to tap into an empty net.

Mike Carmody’s Armthorpe held a half-time lead too. A great run from Sherburn saw him cut into the box from the left before drilling a low shot past Souter from a tight angle.

Hemsworth equalised on the hour mark thanks to Jay Davis’ finish at the back-post. And it was left to Jeff to win it.

Emley were lost on penalties to Irlam Town after being ever so close to winning it in normal time. Aiden Savory’s first half goal appeared to be enough for Emley until Connor Martin equalised in second half injury time.

Josh Street’s first half double sent Selby Town through as Christian Fox’ men won 2-1 at Litherland.

Parkgate enjoyed a fairly comfortable passage as they won 4-0 against Worsbrough Bridge at Roundwood. Fred Tracey, Alex Rippon, Bruno Holden and an own goal did the damage.

Joe Pearson’s secured Swallownest a solitary goal win against Ashton Town.

Excepts from Hemsworth-Armthorpe thanks to Steve Pennock
