Given the current volume of players in the Sheffield & Hallamshire County Senior League Premier Division who were playing NCEL Football last season, we’re trialling round-up of results articles from the Premier Division.
North Gawber scored two late goals to win 3-2 and deny a Luke Forgione a dream start as Houghton Main manager.
Goals from Josh McKeegan, Carl Woodhead and super-sub Carey Welford secured Gawber their dramatic victory. Billy Goose’s double had appeared good enough for Houghton as they were leading 2-1 with only a few minutes to go.
A goal from Ryan Wingrove and another Kieran Hirst failed to get Wombwell Main off the mark as they lost 3-2 to Penistone Church Reserves at home.
Netting for Penistone were James Stafford, Harley Holt and George Ellis.
It wasn’t a dazzling Dodworth Miners Welfare display, but thanks to Danny Barlow’s last gasp goal, Darren Young’s men kicked off the new season with a 2-1 home win against Oughtilbridge.
Minutes after a first half penalty appeal was turned down after a blatant handball, ex-Worsbrough Bridge starlet Liam Owen scored with a close range effort to give them a deserved lead.
His brother Jack should have finished Oughtilbridge off at the beginning of the second half. After Jamie Horbury had been hacked down, Dodworth won a penalty which Owen placed wide.
The game then swung into a different direction as Oughtilbridge put the home side on the ropes and deservedly carved out an equaliser.
When Dodworth regained control, former Shaw Lane Aquaforce star Barlow took command and personally drove his side forward from midfield. He’s had a few chances before eventually striking gold with a deflected shot from the edge of the penalty area.
Jubliee Sports’ 2-0 victory at fancied Wakefield AFC was one of the eye-catching results of the day. Joel Magill and former Hallam forward Jordan Turner found the net.
Last season’s ‘champions’ Swinton Athletic eased to their 4-1 win against Sheffield Town FC. Owen Fieldsend, Curtis Wilkinson and Sam Green scored in the first half and Justin Greenwood netted after the hour mark.
High Green Villa defeated Ecclesfield Red Rose 3-1 thanks to Matthew Jacobs (2) and Ryan Ruddiforth. Red Rose’s goal-scorer was Kenan Mckenzie Grey.
Hepworth United won by the solitary goal against Frecheville Davys.
