Penistone Church had their own Non League good news story on Saturday.
The Alpaca invasion at Carlton Athletic made the national news, but Adam Rhodes’ appearance for Penistone is just as news worthy.
Rhodes hasn’t played a competitive game for two years because of hip surgery and on Saturday he was playing in a golf tournament because he didn’t think he would be needed for Penistone’s FA Vase clash with Prestwich Heys.
He got a phone call from manager Ian Richards at 1-50pm asking him if he could come and sit on bench.
When Chris Snaith went off injury, he had to go on after 70 mins. Then to round-off an unusual day, he saved the decisive penalty in a shootout which allowed Andy Ring to win it 5-4 for Penistone.
