A club official from a lower Non League club has raised concern over spiralling costs for match officials.
The un-named team paid out nearly £200 for three officials as two of them had a 120-mile round trip to get to the game. The full amount was roughly around 48% higher than an average match-day payout for three officials.
“They were very good, but that’s not the point,” the club official told Non League Yorkshire.
“There’s no excuse for it. Two of them both travelled 60 miles and all three had to travel in their own vehicles (because of the current Government rules) which is adding to the issue.
“There needs to be common sense by sending local officials. It is bonkers. Why send officials from 60 miles away? It doesn’t make any sense.
“Then there’s me thinking I’ve had a good day through the gate and I’ve had most of it taken away because of official costs. Every pound matters at the minute.”
Should get referee and linesperson form about 10 to 15 miles away with this all going on with the virus and no fans doing into the stadiums where are the clubs going to get the money to pay for referees and lines persons
Quality officials are always going to cost money!
But also a general shortage of officials never mind good ones!
