Andrew McCreadie marked his first start with two goals in pitch perfect Campion’s 4-1 win over Swallownest which took them top.
Free-scoring Campion have won all five of their league games, but they were initially made to work for it as Swallownest provided the game’s opening gambit.
Campion lost the ball in the opposition half and the visitors quickly broke after a shot was saved, ex-Hallam man Callum Greaves fired home.
McCreadie soon levelled it and then put Campion ahead before the break after being played in by Sean Hunter.
Aiden Kirby’s free kick on the hour extended the lead. Ex-Harrogate Railway man Paddy Sykes, McCreadie’s replacement, turned home a Jay Carney cross from the right to add the fourth.
Campion head to Harrogate on Saturday which will be an emotional day for joint manager Lee Ashforth who returns to the club he served as water bottle carrier, Nathan Cartman’s personal chauffeur and chief advisor, tea and coffee maker, player, assistant manager and finally manager for many, many years.
