Toolstation NCEL Premier Division Round-Up
Former captain Aran Basi has returned to Albion Sports and he helped them defeat local rivals Silsden 2-1 last night at Throstle Nest.
Basi, the son of Albion legend Taj, served Albion for many years before moving on to Eccleshill United.
Two goals late in the first half were difference in Albion’s late victory. Young Finn Donovan brought the house down with the opener and that was followed up by the predatory Danny Facey who doubled the lead on the stroke of half-time.
Silsden brought themselves back to life after the break. Shazad Khurram’s corner was met by the leaping Mark Simpson who scored a debut goal for Silsden with a trademark header. Simpson once netted a memorable header for Garforth Town at Albion in 2016 – a game Basi was actually sent off in – so there will have been no shock when he scored with his head!
The goal set up a close last 40 minutes, but Albion were able to get over the finish line with the three points.
Albion are not in action on Saturday. Silsden face another local derby in a trip to Thackley.
