Toolstation NCEL Round-Up
Brave Goole AFC held free-scoring promotion-chasers Yorkshire Amateur to a goal-less draw and even missed a penalty in the Premier Division clash.
New joint managers Mark Pitts and Simon Portrey must have magic hands having inspired Goole, who had conceded six times in each of their last three games, to hold the league leaders to blank score-sheet.
It is a remarkable result by anyone’s standards. Goole defended heroically, but still created chances and they almost took the lead in the first half.
The returning Reggie Waud won a penalty, but goalkeeper Kyle Trenerry guessed the right way and saved it.
Threadbare Maltby Main surrendered a first half lead in the 3-1 defeat to Eccleshill United at Muglet Lane.
Mitch Dunne’s spectacular curler seemingly set in-form Maltby on course to go third. However, the game went pear-shaped for the Main in the second half.
Luke Aldrich levelled it and Alexander Laird’s header placed Eccleshill ahead. Jonny Irving popped up with the third late in the proceedings after goalkeeper Jim Pollard had made a save.
Three very quick-fire second half goals caused North Ferriby to lose 3-1 at home to Winterton Rangers in Division One.
Danny Buttle’s late penalty was a mere consolation for Ferriby.
