NPL Division One North West
Pickering Town 2-3 Pontefract Collieries
Andy Monkhouse finally celebrated his first league win as ten man Pontefract Collieries incredibly came from behind to win at Pickering Town thanks to Nathan Modeste’s double.
The Colls were facing going into the lockdown without a league victory under their belts and it was a heroic effort as they lost influential midfielder Gavin Rothery to a red card in the first half.
Pontefract were already behind at the point as Leon Osborne had given the home side the lead in the ninth minute.
Ponte’s response was good. Rothery had a shot cleared off the line and Ben Gordon rattled the post. But it did not look good for the Colls when Rothery saw red for a challenge.
A Damian Reeves penalty straight after the interval levelled matters, but in-form Jason Barnes restored Pickering’s lead.
Modeste turned the tables on the home side with a fairly quick-fire double. The first came from a through ball while the winner saw him take on a striker before firing home with the help of the post.
