Best mate in Football

I have made lots of friends through football over the years, some great lads, however (Adam) Priestley is a childhood best friend and he would be upset if I didn’t say him. A lot of my other good mates are all playing local footie.

Gibraltar International Adam Priestley and James Beaston went to school together and are now back reunited at Yorkshire Amateur. Here they are as ‘enemies in 2014 when Beaston played for Glasshoughton and Priestley for Farsley Celtic
James Beaston once came to NCEL prominence at Glasshoughton Welfare where he once scored a spectacular hat-trick
James Beaston spent four years with Garforth Town and was captain throughout his time there

Description of Career Highlight

Captaining Garforth Town for 100 plus appearances

Lowest Moment in Football

Captaining my local team Sherburn White Rose to relegation!

Description of Most Memorable Match

I’ve played in a few dramatic matches, not all for the right reasons….I once scored a top quality hat-trick for Glasshoughton – a header and two penalties. I should be on penalty duty for the Ammers from now on!

There’s also Glassy against Brighouse when the then Brighouse keeper Tommy Taylor scored a header against us in the last minute…Lee Turner rescuing us a point against Harrogate railway for Garforth lobbing the keeper with one of the best goals I’ve seen and also Albert Ibrahimi scoring a beauty against Brid in the last few minutes of the FA Cup a couple of seasons ago for Garforth.

That’s my boy. Rob Hunter watches James Beaston play a pass. Beaston once went to Dublin with Hunter…

Funniest Moment in Football

Thats easy, (ex-Garforth Town and Glasshougton manager) Rob Hunter in Dublin. Another funniest moment playing away at Maine Road with Glasshoughton in the Vase. We were down to ten men after ten minutes, Darrell Young and Liam Radford were sent off and in the shower before ten past three. Long afternoon, but the night out was pretty eventful and I know Craig Ogilvie remembers it well.

Beaston says he owes former Yorkshire Amateur, Glasshoughton and Selby Town manager Graham Hodder a lot.

First semi-professional manager

Graham Hodder and Nick Peacock – I owe these two a lot for believing in me and giving me my first real opportunity (at Glasshoughton). The rest is history.

Description of First Red Card (at semi-professional level)

First red card I can remember was for Glasshoughton (against Armthorpe), hand in the face! Countless yellows but touchwood not too many reds!

Description of First Goal (at semi-professional level)

I should really recall this as I can pretty much count my goals on two hands but I scored a banger away at Brid for Glassy, but apart from that I’ve chipped in with a few mis-kicks here and there!

What do you want to achieve in football in the future

I want to achieve winning the league with the Ammers this year and at very least promotion, one of the main reasons I joined the club. Great set of lads and so much talent. This in the short term, but in the long term I wouldn’t mind a blast at management. I’ve enjoyed doing some coaching with my local team South Milford.

Favourite Non League Ground you’ve played at (barring your own club)

Would probably be Worksop before they got promoted, the pitch was always a carpet.
