Kieran Scargill is back playing with Athersley Rec and Stocksbridge Park Steels captain colossal Liam McFadyen has joined them on a short-term basis.
The pair are two of the five new arrivals to Athersley ahead of the home Toolstation NCEL Premier Division clash with leaders Yorkshire Amateur on Saturday. 2014 Senior Cup winner Scargill is not likely to feature though.
Defender Josh Bucknall is back after a short stint at Worsbrough Bridge and Cole Edwards and Jay Okojie also sign.
Shane Kelsey told Non League Yorkshire: “Fads comes to us on a short term deal in order to get back up to speed (following a sabbatical). Massive thanks goes out to Hilts (Chris Hilton) and Stocksbridge for this one in allowing us to get a play of Faddy’s ability and experience. Massive thanks also go to Fads himself for seeing the bigger picture and not dismissing us based on what we look like on paper.
“He lives less than two miles from the club, is good friends with many players at the club so this is a win win situation for the player and both ourselves and Stocksbridge.
“Scags has spent some time out of the game due to work commitments. He comes back initially with the reserves after being persuaded back Addy White (reserves manager) just to try and reignite his passion for the game.
“Scag as proved in the past that he is one of the best central midfielder at this level and if his return to the club progress to him working his way back to what he does best then we are very lucky.
“One thing is for sure regardless of what happens and how it progresses, having Scags back at the club will be in any capacity is sure to be a massive hit with the fans as he was a massive part of the club’s most successful period.
“Josh Bucknall returns from Worsbrough Bridge after a short period at Park Road. Myself and Josh have a good relationship and I have always been honest with him. When Josh decided to leave to join Worsbrough I told him I thought he was making a mistake at the time.
“We had a bit of a discussion where Josh said things that I did not want to hear, not only from my players but young players in general and ultimately that made each other’s minds up and Josh left. But from the very beginning I have always said to player do not to be too proud to pick the phone up should things not work out. Obviously things did not work out and Josh has returned and looks to make up for lost time.
“Young full-back Cole arrives from Belper Town. He comes highly recommended and on his first outing for the club in last Saturday’s friendly away at Ossett United, showed he can have a real impact for us with his tenacious work-rate.
“25 year old commanding centre midfielder Jay joins us having returned from playing out in the States. International clearance went a lot quicker than expected and he becomes available for selection this Saturday. He also had his first outing for us last Saturday at Ossett United and adds a much need calm head and physical presence in the middle of the park.”
