Steeton pulled off an excellent 3-0 victory at previously unbeaten Pilkington on the Division One North restart weekend.
The afternoon began with a bang as midfielder Luke Baldwin struck a 30-yard worldie after just four minutes to place Roy Mason’s men in front.
Steeton had to weather heavy incoming towards the end of the first half but goalkeeper Jordan Moorhouse stood up to the test with some smart saves.
The visitors strengthened their hand after the interval. Steeton broke away and Ben Wignall nipped in and buried the ball into the bottom corner.
The icing on the cake came in the final five minutes. Baldwin was initially denied but the chance didn’t fall away as James Wolfenden took command and bent a marvellous effort into the top corner from 25 yards.
That rounded off a fabulous day for Steeton who hope to play a competitive fixture at Marley Stadium in their next scheduled game – the visit of Nelson on the 28th December.
The plans for the celebration of Ash and Gav Connor’s 200 games in charge of Golcar United will have to be put on hold.
Their 199th battle – the home clash with Holker Old Boys – was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.
