Handsworth responded superbly to the heavy defeat at Bridlington Town by winning 4-1 at Staveley Miners Welfare on the new 3G pitch at Inkersall Road.
Handsworth’s two first half goals were of the spectacular nature. Leon Howarth hit the opener in the 12th minute – blasting the ball into the far left-hand top corner from 20 yards.
With half-time looming, youngster Juan Xavier struck gold with a stunning free kick.
It only got better for Handsworth in the second half. Stocksbridge Park Steels’ Ross Goodwin scored a rare goal against his old club on the hour after a shot was saved.
Sam Smith added the fourth after Handsworth performed a fine passing move.
Staveley pulled one back through Rieves Boocock in the final ten minutes.
In the other Premier Division game played on Bank Holiday Monday saw Liversedge maintain their perfect start to the campaign with the 2-0 win over Albion Sports.
150 fans watched Ollie Fearon and Nicky Boshell win it for ‘Sedge in the second half.
