Souter signs two-year Brighouse deal

New Brighouse Town goalkeeper and captain Brett Souter

Hemsworth Miners Welfare goalkeeper Brett Souter has joined Brighouse Town on a two-year deal.

The move sees the former Ossett United stopper step back up to the Northern Premier League. He is very experienced in the league as prior to his spell with Ossett, he was Ossett Albion’s number one for several years under Richard Tracey.

Souter replaces on loan Manchester United goalkeeper Jacob Carney who has gone to Portadown.

Vill Powell told Brighouse’s official website: “I think Brett’s ability and experience speaks for itself he’s someone that’s been on my radar for a long time and finally it’s come together he’s captained teams at this level so vocal abilities will be welcomed.”

He added: “At this point probably not as we don’t know where the season is heading. We needed a Goalkeeper with Jacob going back to Man United to get games at Portadown so that was an essential signing. He’s [Brett] signed until 2022 so it’s not just for this season.”
