The Sheffield & Hallamshire County Senior League have had verbal confirmation from the FA to say they can hold two cup competitions across April and May.
They are waiting for written permission for the two drawn-up competitions – the League Cup and Brian Bradley Charity Cup.
Not all Senior League clubs are taking part, but it is still a fair number.
Denaby Main, Dodworth Miners Welfare, Ecclesfield Red Rose 1915, Handsworth FC Reserves, Hepworth United, Jubilee Sports, Kiveton Park, North Gawber, Oughtibridge, Penistone Church Reserves, Sheffield Town FC, South Elmsall United Services, South Kirkby Colliery, Swinton Athletic, Wombwell Main and Wombwell Town will battle it out for the League Cup.
The likes of giants Swinton, Darren Young’s Dodworth and North Gawber are bound to be favourites for the trophy. Karl Rose’s Wombwell Town, a powerful Division One force and whose promotion hopes keep getting hit by the pandemic, are clearly going to be dark horses.
The Brian Bradley Charity Cup will see many of the Division One and Two clubs battle it out – including Silkstone whose star man is the Showman Ryan Poskitt.
The full list: AFC Dronfield, Athersley Recreation Reserves, Bank End AFC, Caribbean Sports, Houghton Main Developement, Kinsley Boys, Kiveton Park F.C. Reserves, Millmoor Juniors, New Bohemians, Parkgate Reserves, Sheffield Lane Top FC, Sheffield Medics, Sheffield Union, Silkstone United, Stocksbridge Park Steels FC Development, Swinton Athletic Reserves, Wombwell Main Development.
Clubs will be placed into groups of four and then both competitions will have their own quarter-finals, semi-finals and final to decide the winner.
The league plan to perform the draw for the group stages next week if permission is granted.
The league have so far been unable to confirm the government and FA’s position on spectators at matches. Step 7 clubs previously followed different rules to Non League teams.
It will also be interesting to see if there is an influx of NCEL and maybe NPL players to County Senior League clubs with cup competitions off the table in those two leagues.
Although Brighouse Town have organised one cup competition with 12 teams and at least one other is planned by other clubs, there is no guarantee they will go ahead due to the current situation of spectators not allowed to attend. Brighouse have said their competition will only take place if spectators are permitted.
