Ex-York winger Woolford returns to Frickley

Martyn Woolford has rejoined Frickley

Former York City winger Martyn Woolford has returned to Frickley Athletic, one of his early clubs during his fine career.

Woolford started his football journey with Glasshoughton Welfare where he excelled as a teenager. He was quickly snapped up by Frickley and he was outstanding for the Blues during the 2005/06 season which saw Frickley finish second in the NPL Premier Division under Gary Marrow.

He was so good National League side York City paid a fee for him.

His form with the Minstermen led to Scunthorpe United bringing him into the Football League where he enjoyed a good career with the Bristol City, Millwall, Sheffield United, Fleetwood Town and Grimsby Town.

He also scored the winning goal for Scunthorpe in the 2009 League One play-off final at Wembley.

The 35-year-old’s most recent club was Gainsborough Trinity.

Frickley have also signed goalkeeper Jake Askew.
