Thackley boss plans to add two or three more players to squad

Thackley manager Paddy McGuire

Thackley manager Paddy McGuire plans to make at least a couple of signings before the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division season begins on July 31st.

McGuire has been quiet on the recruitment front this summer having only signed former Campion striker Jahro Parchment – who played for Field in the West Yorkshire League last season – and technically fellow forward Albert Ibrahimi.

Ibrahimi actually rejoined Thackley earlier this year during the third lockdown.

“It is always a slow starter for us,” McGuire told Non League Yorkshire.

“Financially (on the budget front) we are not in the best position compared to the teams around in and around us.

“But we have a settled squad and I’m happy with the lads that I’ve got.

“We will be looking to add two-or-three. That’ll probably be closer to the end of pre-season when lads realise they are not to play (at their club) if they’re trialling higher and need to get fixed up with a club.

“We’ve brought Jahro in and he’s a fast and lively striker and I think he’ll be good for us and will help us stretch teams.

“We have lads who have been long-term injured coming back like Omar Habeeb and Nicky Matthews so we’re bringing back players who have been signed with us but haven’t been available.

“If this was the squad I had going into the season I would be absolutely thrilled, but we are looking to add two or three.”

Jahro Parchment is congratulated on his goal against Brighouse Town by Nicky Matthews

Parchment immediately introduced himself with a goal in the impressive 2-2 draw with NPL Division One East side Brighouse Town – a result McGuire was pleased with.

“It is a positive start against a very good team from the league above,” he said.

“I spoke to Vill beforehand and they have been back a couple more weeks (than us) so they are quite a way ahead of us in terms of preparation.

“We have only had three sessions and we had a few lads missing as well.

“I like to give everyone 45 minutes in the first game of pre-season but we’ve not been able to do that.

“Some lads have come through 90 minutes and I’m delighted with them.

“They have shown a good level of fitness.

“We tired in the second half and allowed Brighouse a lot of possession, but that’s what pre-season is about.

“It was a good test for us and a good workout and we’ve come out of it with a half-decent result.”
