Knaresborough boss still hunting for new faces

Knaresborough Town manager Rob Hunter

Rob Hunter remains on the look-out for new faces to bolster his Knaresborough Town squad.

Hunter has signed six new players since taking the Manse Lane job in May – Sean Hunter, Tom Rose, Harry Croft, Mitch Hamilton, Jamie Hassall and Ewan Gregson.

But he hopes to recruit some more before the scheduled start of the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division season on the 31st July.

“We are a little bit light still, we need to find a couple of players,” Hunter told Non League Yorkshire.

“We need another defender and we need a central midfielder.

“I got the job fairly late and it has been quite tough trying to recruit people.

“As you know the Knaresborough Town budget is not a massive budget so trying to recruit to people into this league is really hard.

“I’ve brought in Dom Creamer who has loads of pace. Sean has scored three goals in two games so he’s a good addition.

“I think the goalkeeper Jamie Hassall is one for the future, but he’s one who has performed exceptionally well in pre-season so far.

“We have Tom Rose as well and I think he’s a good player.”

Knaresborough’s need for a couple more players was shown in the 5-2 defeat at Selby Town on Tuesday night.

Hunter fielded a threadbare side and he admitted it was a difficult evening.

“We had four players to start with and then unfortunately lost another bang on kick off due to a personal matter,” he said.

“We then lost both centre-halves to injury in the first 15 minutes so we ended up with one fit centre-half on the pitch and that’s a 19-year-old lad who was making his debut at this level.

“We had a left-back at centre-half and a winger at left-back.

“We were well-beaten in the end. Selby played quite well, but with the team we ended up with at the end of the game we probably had 11 first team unavailable.

“It was always going to be a tough night when pretty much the whole team (by the end of the game) barring three or four are trialists.”
