Albion Sports striker Robbie Fox celebrates scoring the first of his two goals

Robbie Fox’s late double completed a good afternoon’s work by Albion Sports in the comfortable win over Steeton at Marley Stadium.

Striker Jamal Stewart’s first half opener laid the platform for Danny Brown and Ishy Hussain’s Albion who look like a more than competitive side this year.

A goal straight after the interval effectively killed the contest and ex-Silsden forward Fox’s two goals made the score-line more brutal.

Steeton had run out of gas by the end, having lost a couple of players to injury – all which adds to the recent team woes.

Off-the-field Steeton are thriving and flourishing in their fabulous new Marley home. On-the-field manager Roy Mason is seeing injury after injury.

Key forward Ben Wignall is on the treatment list along with Luke Baldwin (fractured hand), while Andy Brigg is unavailable.

The goalkeeper situation is even more bizarre.

First choice goalkeeper Jordan Moorhouse is out for a while with a torn quad muscle.

His replacement Stuart Cross fractured his face and nose 20 minutes into the midweek win over Thackley.

Trialist stopper Jordan Harding, the former Nelson goalkeeper who played twice for Garforth Town in 2019 as a temporary replacement for the injured Toby Wells, now has the baton and he had a decent game despite the score-line.

He denied Stewart three times in the first half – each time as the striker breached Steeton’s back-line.

Steeton had lots of possession on the 3G surface, but did little with it – perhaps because of the absence of Wignall and Briggs who work so well with Kayle Price.

The one chance they did get would have made this a different story.

Steeton penetrated Albion’s left-side and the ball found its way to the six-yard box where Mitchell Fox was waiting. However, the youngster blasted home and the chance was gone.

The miss came back to haunt the home side. Mason’s men lost the ball in the middle of the park and Albion countered quickly. The through ball sent Stewart scuttling away and he made no mistake this time with a low finish past the onrushing Harding.

That was right on the half-time whistle and the second half began in disastrous style for Steeton.

Poor defending contributed as Albion netted from close range.

Albion joint boss Brown, the ex-defender. regularly shouted “game management” from the visitors’ dugout and his side delivered on that instruction to the letter.

Albion just waited for their time to strike for a third.

Steeton heads dropped as the game closed down and Fox took advantage with a hammered strike into the right-hand top corner.

The young forward’s day got even better one minute later when a through ball allowed him to strike low and hard to score his second and Albion’s fourth.

NLY Community Sport, run by James Grayson and Connor Rollinson, has always had combatting social isolation at the top of our objectives when running our Disability Football teams.

Our work is playing an important role in reintroducing our players, who have disabilities and learning difficulties, back into society.

We have six teams, a mixture of Junior and Adult teams – Nostell MW DFC, Pontefract Pirates, Selby Disability Football Club and the South Yorkshire Superheroes (Barnsley) – across Yorkshire.

We have enjoyed great success over the past three years. Several of our players have represented Mencap GB in Geneva, including Billy Hobson from Selby and Greg Smith, whose story is quite inspiring.

You can learn more about the organisation HERE and on our Facebook page.

Watch the video below to see highlights from our three years as an organisation. The video was produced for our players at the end of March to remind them of good memories from the last three years.
