Prolific Non League forward Nicky Boshell and Marc Lumb head up Campion’s mini-rebuild of five new faces to replace the recent departures.
Boshell needs no introductions as he joins the North West Counties side. Boshell is of course the ex-Bradford (Park Avenue) and Guiseley frontman who has enjoyed a fantastic career.
Former Liversedge left-back Lumb has joined Campion from Swallownest and is a sound addition.
Attacker Mark Ferguson arrives from Glasshoughton Welfare where he has had a good two seasons.
Midfielder Danny Keane is a new addition from Pontefract Collieries and defender Myles Foley returns to Campion from Silsden.
Sean Hunter (Knaresborough Town) and Joe Jagger left some time ago.
But the need for urgent fresh bodies has been prevalent in recent weeks with Campion losing Mohammed Qasim to Silsden, Tom Brennan and Leon Hurles-Brook to Penistone Church and Ben Bodle and captain Aidan Day to Eccleshill United at various points this summer.
Joint manager Lee Ashforth told Non League Yorkshire: “We didn’t know how much of a rebuilding it would be.
“Because of moving over to the North West Counties we didn’t know which players were going to stay.
“We felt the majority of the team would stay but then over the last couple of weeks we have had a couple of players leave which we didn’t expect which is a bit disappointing.
“Some didn’t leave in the right way, whereas say in the instance of Tom Brennan and Leon Hurles-Brook, they go with our best wishes because the way they left was top draw and we fully understood the reasoning.
“So we have had to rebuild and certainly (joint manager) James (Bicknell) has worked really hard to get players in and we have grafted in the last two weeks.
“We played Armthorpe two weeks ago and we literally went with a scratched team. We had 13 players and it was a nightmare.
“Now we’ve got some new signings over-the-line and we’re getting the feel of a competitive team now.”
