Best wishes to Russ Eagle

Toolstation NCEL Premier Division

Handsworth manager Russ Eagle

Russ Eagle is to take an enforced leave of absence from Handsworth due to a long-awaited hospital procedure.

After leading the Ambers to opening day 4-2 win over Silsden, Eagle has temporarily handed the reins to first team coach Aiden Spowage and assistant manager Jason Dodsworth while he recuperates.

Eagle told Handsworth’s website: “The timing is horrific (football wise) but in times when the brilliant NHS is so stretched I’m just grateful that they’ve been able to accommodate me.

“I’ve been keeping (chairman) John (Ward) and (vice-chairman) Steve (Holmes) updated throughout the summer and have been planning for this scenario behind the scenes.

“I’m handing over interim management of the squad to Aiden together with my fantastic management team.

“Our summer addition of Jason and goalkeeper coach Adam Ledger means Aiden will have brilliant experienced support.

“Add to the mix (physios) Kev (Elshaw) and Ben (Clarke), they are more than well equipped to cope.

“Aiden is a talented young coach and a great man-manager who has been superb since he joined up with me two years ago and he knows the club inside out.

“We all know Jason’s fantastic qualities and his drive and experience will mean we’re in safe hands.

“I’m not sure as yet the timeframe of my enforced absence, but rest assured even though I can’t be around in person I’ll still be around in spirit and be in constant communication with Spow & Jase.”
