Mark Simpson has reunited himself with mentor Rob Hunter after joining Knaresborough Town.
The Garforth Town legend enjoyed his best scoring spell under Hunter – a manager he had a special relationship with – at the Miners between 2016 and 2019.
After a couple of less than successful campaigns, Simpson will hope his new boss will relight his predatory instinct for scoring lots of goals.
Subject to documentation going through from his move from Silsden, Simpson is in line to make his debut for Knaresborough in the FA Cup tie with Northallerton Town on Saturday at Manse Lane.
It has been a great week for Knaresborough who got off to a flyer by winning at Barton Town on the opening day.
Now with a further proven goal-scorer linking up with Sean Hunter, hopes of a positive season have to be strong.
Under Hunter, Simpson broke two notable Garforth records – one was that he became their all-time goal-scorer. The other was scoring in 11 consecutive matches during the 2016/17 season – overall he scored 30 times that campaign.
Simpson started the curtailed 2020/21 campaign with Selby Town before a brief pit-stop with Liversedge followed.
He then joined Silsden and was due to start the season with them before the lure of Hunter and perhaps a trip to Dublin proved too good to turn down.
