Forgione urges Worsbrough to stay grounded

Worsbrough Bridge manager Luke Forgione

Luke Forgione is urging Worsbrough Bridge to stay grounded after their perfect start to the season.

Worsbrough appear to be back on an upward trajectory following two straight victories – their best opening bat to a league campaign since 2018.

But Forgione is warning his troops to not get carried away.

“I think we have to enjoy that we have won two out of two,” Forgione told Non League Yorkshire.

“However, let’s put things in perspective, it is only two games into the season.

“Things can change quickly in football.

“It could easily turn.

“It is a positive what we’re doing at the moment, however, I know there is tougher tests to come.

“We could easily go on a run now and lose two-or-three games.

“It is about enjoying the moment.

“Our focus turns to Retford away (on August 14th) which will be a difficult fixture.

“We played them away last year and they gave us a bit of a tanking.

“We need to focus on the next game and move forward.”

Worsbrough celebrate Luke Francis’ opener in the 5-2 destruction of FC Humber

Worsbrough won at Hall Road Rangers on the opening day before smashing FC Humber United in midweek.

Although delighted with the wins, perfectionist Forgione saw some faults.

“We made a couple of changes from the weekend (win at Hall Road) and people have said ‘you can’t change a winning side’,” he said.

“But I felt we needed to make a couple of changes even though we won at the weekend I thought we were a bit flakey at times.

“I thought we were a bit sloppy at times (against Humber) and we got punished.

“They had two clearcut chances and bagged two.

“We probably had about 20 and bagged five.”

The other talking point was the size of the crowd against Humber – the highest attendance at Park Road since Forgione and his playing contemporaries famously put Shaw Lane Aquaforce to the sword in 2013.

“It was brilliant to see so many people down,” Forgione added.

“We’ve talked about wanting more people coming down (to matches) and it was a great crowd.

“Hopefully they went away thinking ‘good performance’ and want to come back.”
