Trio of signings at Pontefract

NPL Division One East

Layton Swaine has joined Pontefract Collieries

Pontefract Collieries have made a trio of signings with less than 24 hours to go until the mouth-watering opening day home clash with local rivals Ossett United.

Hemsworth Miners Welfare striker Layton Swaine is back with the Colls.

Swaine scored in clashes with Hebburn Town and Glossop North End two years ago before moving on.

Swaine has impressed with Hemsworth and has earned his move back to the NPL.

Young goalkeeper Jake Greatorex, who has had spells with Penistone Church, will provide competition for number one Ryan Musselwhite.

Greatorex was on the bench 22 times for Barnsley during the Tykes’ 2019 promotion under Daniel Stendel.

The other signing is young centre-half Callum Brook who recently left Chesterfield’s academy.

Young scholars Charlie Clegg and Cole Patrick have both joined Athersley Rec on dual-registration on terms to bolster Shane Kelsey’s side.
