NPL Division One East Round-Up (2)
It was perhaps fitting that Fernando Moke scored Yorkshire Amateur’s first goal in the Northern Premier League during the incredible 3-0 opening day win at fancied Worksop Town.
The resounding victory was almost like sweet revenge as the Tigers smashed the Ammers 7-0 duding their last meeting back in March 2019.
The boot was on the other foot this time and the Leeds-based side raced into the lead with a 21st minute opener after Moke broke the offside trap.
Moke has had several spells with the Ammers going back to the late 2000s but he has played in the NPL and both NCEL Divisions, just as his colleague Roy Fogarty.
Fogarty doubled the Ammers’ lead within minutes after finding the bottom corner.
Fogarty nearly scored again as he almost found the top corner before having a goal disallowed for offside.
Worksop created the odd moment of danger in the second half but their task became irrecoverable when Deegan Atherton saw red after receiving a second yellow card.
Fogarty went close again before ex-Nostell Miners Welfare winger Amir Berchill scored a dream debut goal.
What a start for the Ammers!
Pickering Town lost 4-0 at Shildon in a game that saw both sides reduced to ten men in the 23rd minute.
Ben Trotter was sent off for Shildon while Pickering’s Ben Clappison saw red after a scuffle.
