Walton hits two on Liversedge’s superb NPL debut

NPL Division One East Round-Up (3)

Liversedge striker Joe Walton

Joe Walton was another fitting NPL goal-scorer as he hit both goals in Liversedge’s 2-0 victory at Lincoln United.

Walton was there at the very beginning of Jonathan Rimmington’s reign in 2015 when ‘Sedge were a lowly Toolstation NCEL Premier Division side.

He was actually a centre-half in Rimmington’s first game in charge at Clipstone all those years ago.

‘Sedge enjoyed a dream start to life in the NPL as the opening goal was scored in the seventh minute.

Ollie Fearon beautifully crossed into the six-yard-box after bamboozling Lincoln’s left-back and Walton leapt well to head home from inches out.

Walton was on target again after some kamikaze defending from Lincoln.

Firstly they were lucky not to concede from an almighty goal-line scramble.

The ball went out for another corner and it was almost like Lincoln were asleep as most of their defenders were stationary as it was slowly floated into the six-yard-box.

Walton was unmarked and he easily headed home.

The striker almost got his hat-trick straight after the interval but he fired wide from close range after Lincoln had been carved open.

Brighouse Town and Dunston battled out a goal-less draw.
