Ossett continue perfect start

NPL Division One East Round-Up

Ossett United striker James Walshaw

Ossett United have made an excellent start to the new season after making it two wins from two by beating Stocksbridge Park Steels 3-0 at Ingfield.

Last year’s troubles seem to be consigned to history with victories over Pontefract Collieries and Stocksbridge silencing any doubters.

Tabib Hussain’s free kick on the half-hour mark was fired in by Nash Connolly to kick proceedings off for Wayne Benn’s men.

Ossett had to wait until the latter stages to grab the second half.

Connolly turned his hand to being the provider with a cross for Walshaw to score his first competitive goal since his much-heralded return.

Walshaw got his second goal in the final minute with a delightful curled effort.

Kieran Wells and his brother Brad secured Frickley their second consecutive win

The Wells brothers, Brad and Kieran continued Frickley Athletic’s perfect opening to the campaign by scoring the goals in the 2-1 defeat of Brighouse Town at Westfield Lane.

Kierans’s early goal was quickly cancelled out by Laurence Sorhaindo.

But Brad was soon on hand to grab the win for Frickley.

Eli Hey helped Pontefract Collieries win their first game of the season

Pontefract Collieries are off the mark after winning 3-1 at Pickering Town – ironically the scene of their last competitive victory.

Craig Rouse’s first three points as Colls manager were secured by Jack Lazenby, Eli Hey and a Ben Clappison own goal.

Clappison was later sent off following a rash lunge.

Brandon Holdsworth last minute strike for Pickering was a mere consolation.

The only downside was Fabian Bailey’s late red card for his reaction to a challenge.

Liversedge striker Joe Walton

Nicky Walker, Joe Walton and Kurt Harris secured a second half 3-1 win for Liversedge against Tadcaster Albion at Clayborn.

Walton and Harris netted in the second stanza after Tadcaster’s Simon Russell had restored parity in the 26th minute following Nicky Walker’s opener for ‘Sedge.

Ste Crawford on the attack for Yorkshire Amateur in December

Yorkshire Amateur broke through Bridlington Town’s resistance thanks to Roy Fogarty’s hope mark strike.

Ste Crawford added the second goal in the final minute to give Craig Ogilvie and Neil Sibson’s men a 2-0 win.
