Knaresborough have nothing to lose in David versus Goliath FA Cup tie

FA Cup Preliminary Round

Knaresborough Town manager Rob Hunter

Knaresborough Town have literally nothing to lose in the proverbial David versus Goliath FA Cup clash at Liversedge.

That’s the view of Rob Hunter whose side are riding the crest of wave after an outstanding start to the new Toolstation NCEL Premier Division season.

Knaresborough beat Northallerton Town in the Preliminary Round and have won all three league games.

They have scored seven goals and have yet to concede in the league.

“When you start a new season you hope you get an FA Cup win and we’ve got an FA Cup win,” Hunter told Non League Yorkshire.

“That’s good start – £1,125 in the coffers.

“That’s hugely important to a club like ourselves.

“Going to Liversedge knowing that there is £481 for the losing team as an absolute minimum, the club is going to have earned almost two grand (from the FA Cup).

“That’s what the FA Cup is about at this level.

“Can we go to Liversedge and cause an upset?

“Probably not.

“You look at the squad of the players they had last season and how good they were and look at the additions they have made this season.

“You think ‘well it is a freebie’.

“We’ll go to Liversedge and probably set up differently to how we have set up so far (this season) because we are going to a team who would expect to put four or five past us.

“Liversedge won’t have an easy game.

“They won’t think anything other than we’re going there to cause an upset and it is a free hit for us.

“We’ll go there and enjoy ourselves but we’ll set our team up to cause them some problems.

“Sean is scoring goals.

“We’ve only conceded one goal (which was against Northallerton) in the four games so far so (Liversedge) are going to have to work really hard to give us a good beating.”
