Heroic captain Davidson fires Brid through in FA Cup

FA Cup Preliminary Round Round-Up (2)

Bridlington Town captain Pete Davidson

Heroic captain Pete Davidson sent Bridlington Town into the first qualifying round by scoring the winner in the memorable 3-2 win at Northern League giants Consett.

That was the only time Brid led in the tie as Brett Agnew’s men had to fight-back twice.

Danny East equalised on the stroke of half-time and again straight after the break.

Davidson got the winner with a fantastic move he started.

Pontefract Collieries forward Vaughan Redford
Goole AFC goalkeeper Mat Zaniewski was sent off in the last minute

Goole AFC pushed Northern Premier League side Pontefract Collieries all the way but lost 1-0.

Vaughan Redford’s 18th minute goal was all Pontefract needed to progress into the next round.

Good work from Scott Smith led to him crossing the ball into Eli Hey.

Hey held the ball up before squaring the ball into the six-yard-box to allow Redford to prod it home.

Goole’s goalkeeper Mat Zaniewski was sent off in second half stoppage time after being deemed to have denied an obvious goal-scoring opportunity.

Liversedge star Alfie Raw

Liversedge put five past lower league Knaresborough Town without reply.

Paul Walker, Joe Walton, Alfie Raw, Spencer Harris and Nicky Walker got the goals.

Brave Campion nearly brought two leagues higher Prescot Cables back to Bradford for a replay.

Aidan Kirby (penalty) and Jay Carney had levelled the tie twice but Prescot scored in the last minute to deny Campion.

Brighouse Town, Pickering Town, Tadcaster Albion, Ossett United, Yorkshire Amateur and Frickley Athletic all crashed out to North East giants.

Brighouse suffered late heartbreak in the 2-1 defeat at Shildon.

Brighouse led through Jack Boyle until Shildon scored twice in the final three minutes.

Vill Powell’s side were also playing with ten men in the latter stages as Jack Tinker had been sent off.

Tadcaster were also hit by a last minute goal in the 2-1 loss to Newton Aycliffe.

Donald Chimalilo had put Tad on course for a replay.

Ossett were beaten 1-0 at Stockton Town.

Frickley lost 3-0 at home to Sunderland RCA while Pickering were thrashed 7-0 by NPL Division One East favourites Marske United.

Ten man Ammers, who fielded a very changed side, lost by the same score-line at Bracken Edge to Hebburn Town.

Fernando Moke was the Ammers player sent off.
