Joint stand-in boss Jason Dodsworth is pleased Handsworth are delivering for manager Russ Eagle.

Assistants Dodsworth and Aiden Spowage have been overseeing the running of the first team since the second game of the season as Eagle is recovering from an operation.

Eagle has watched the last two fixtures – the wins over Garforth Town and Stocksbridge Park Steels – but he is a few weeks away from a return to the touchline.

“He was always going to find (being away from it) tough because he lives and breathes the game like many of us do,” Dodsworth told Non League Yorkshire.

“To start as we started (with a win) and for him to have the operation and then not be able to come at all, it is always going to be hard for him.

“Me and Aiden have said we want to do the best job we can and keep us in the hunt for what we are aiming to achieve until Russ is fit to come back in the dugout with us.

“It is good to see that he can get here now (to watch) in his wheelchair.

“It is working at the minute and he trusts what we are doing.”

Eagle must have had his spirits raised by the results.

The Ambers have lost once – the defeat at Grimsby Borough – and alongside the fine league form, they beat Stocksbridge in the FA Cup.

“It has been a great start,” Dodsworth said.

“You can’t grumble with three wins out of four.

“We lost at Grimsby on a Wednesday night and they absolutely hammered us in the first half.

“It was one of the best performances I’ve seen from an NCEL club.

“Our reaction in the second half was fantastic and we could have won the game or got a point.

“But we’ll take three from four every day of the week.”
