Premier Division
Jack Moore scored a hat-trick to hand new Penistone Church Reserves joint manager Scott Briggs and John Whitehead a fairytale victory in their first competitive fixture in charge.
Church ran out 4-1 winners against local rivals Houghton Main at home in the opening day derby clash.
Penistone led 3-1 at the interval.
Former Glasshoughton Welfare player Ryan Hallsworth was also on the score-sheet for Church.
Ex-Worsbrough Bridge man Harry Steeple scored for Houghton, who had key defender James Byford sent off.
Jon Wragg also got off the mark in his debut as Ecclesfield Red Rose manager.
Red Rose defeated his old club Stocksbridge Park Steels reserves in a 2-1 win.
Chris Lewis and highly-rated young gun Declan Childes scored.
Terry Simon’s youth revolution began with a bang as Wombwell Main won their difficult trip to Sheffield Town.
Wombwell won 3-2 thanks to goals from Sam Jones, Jamie Knox and rising star Ryan Wingrove.
An incredible crowd of 305 people watched Wakefield AFC begin with a 7-2 demolition of High Green Villa.
High Green were party poopers to begin as they raced into the lead to shock their hosts.
But Wakefield quickly recovered from the disastrous start to lead 4-1 at half-time.
Doubles from Owen Kirman and Jake Morrison were backed up by goals from Cory Woodward, Bruno Bagi and ex-Harrogate Town youngster Brad Swain.
Swinton Athletic began the season in a similar way to they left the last one with a 7-0 battering of Jubilee Sports.
Curtis Wilkinson hit the net four times.
Sam Green, Justin Greenwood and Enzo Guarini also scored.
Division One
Promotion-chasing Wombwell Main were held to a 2-2 draw at Chris Nelson’s Kiveton Park.
Marquee summer signing Matty Thornton scored both goals for Wombwell.
Adam Bratley and Lewis Shaw were the Kiveton goal-scorers.
Fellow promotion hopefuls Denaby Main defeated Caribbean Sports 2-1 – Jordan Cooper and Cameron Till found the net.

The North of England Football Academy got off to a fantastic start as they beat fancied Silkstone United 5-2 on the opening day.
Lasana Touray Yaffa got a hat-trick, with Joe-Brooke Parkin and Ishaq Bouheraoua also netting.
Ten man Pontefract Collieries Reserves lost 2-1 to Sheffield Lane Top at Beechnut Lane.
Todd Guest and Robert Richardson secured Lane Top their win against Ponte who played with ten men for 60 minutes.
Callum Scott got Ponte’s goal.
