Former Rotherham United midfielder and Pontefract Collieries chief Andy Monkhouse is the new assistant manager at Tadcaster Albion.
Interim boss Steve Waide is in charge for the foreseeable future following Paul Quinn’s exit and the club are allowing him to sign new players if need be and organise his own coaching staff.
That’s why he approached UEFA A-Licence Monkhouse who makes his return to Tadcaster after playing for the club right at the end of his career.
Monkhouse enjoyed a fantastic professional career, spanning over 500 games and taking in clubs like Rotherham United, Bristol Rovers and Hartlepool United.
“I’m delighted to have someone with his experience as an ex-pro and an A-Licence coach who has worked in academy football and in Non League as a manager,” Waide told Non League Yorkshire.
“He is a great addition to our staff.
“He came to watch (the draw with Worksop Town last night) and I’m been speaking to him this morning.
“He had a spell with our club and a lot of the players know and respect him which is important.”
Monkhouse was manager on Pontefract during the aborted 2020/21 season.
He had a difficult job as all but a handful of players had left for Worksop Town with the previous management team.
He had to rebuilt with the squad with mostly younger players.
He left Ponte in January when the club decided to go in a different direction by bringing back Craig Rouse and many of the players who had delivered success for them in recent years.
