Sheffield & Hallamshire FA Senior Cup
Jon Wragg’s Eccleshill Red Rose 1915 edged an exciting 4-3 defeat of Jubilee Sports in the hastily-arranged first round tie in the crisis-hit Sheffield & Hallamshire FA Senior Cup.
Carlton Carty and debutant Rob Farrell both got doubles for Ecclesfield.
Former Worsbrough Bridge striker Adam Askwith, Keiron Hopkinson and Liam Haglington were on target for Jubilee.
The Senior Cup has plunged itself into its fourth crisis since 2014, following on from the Daniel Monfredi debacle of 2014 and the withdrawal of Shaw Lane Aquaforce and Frickley Athletic from the final in 2016 and 2019.
Across the Sheffield FA’s cup competitions, the Sheffield FA confirmed in their own statement, which contained no apology, that 120 clubs were placed in the wrong cups.
Shockingly, Dodworth Miners Welfare and Wombwell Main were the among the clubs not even allocated a place in a cup – in their case the Senior Cup – because of a computer software issue.
Because the local FA has refused to re-draw the competition early last week when the problems emerged, Dodworth and Wombwell and their grassroots footballers have been cruelly been denied a potential tie with a top NCEL club in the prestigious Senior Cup.
The situation has produced real anger from those involved with the clubs affected.
In the only game in the Sheffield & Hallamshire County Senior League Premier Division, North Gawber lost 3-1 at Sheffield Town.
