Popular Non League Football stalwart Wilf Race has stood down as chairman of Maltby Main with immediate effect.
Mr Race feels the time is right to step aside after eight years in the role at the club he also served as manager during his days in the dugout.
Maltby have grown enormously under his guidance so the news is sad.
His resignation was revealed in his programme notes for the FA Vase clash with Bury AFC.
“A new leader is needed to continue to develop the club and its facilities,” he said.
“I had set my mind on stepping down once the Town Council took over the lease which in my opinion will be a springboard for the club to secure vital grants and funding that we have been denied over the years.
“It’s been a long and eventful journey during my tenure and most of the days have been fantastic. I am proud to have been at the helm and I wish my successor the very best of luck.
“It will always be a part of me ‘The little club with the big heart’.”
He went on to say he thanks all his friends, committee members, supporters
CEO Darrell Johnson will take on the chairman’s role on an interim basis while the club search for Mr Race’s successor.
Anyone interested in the role is asked to email the club at maltbymainfc@hotmail.com.
Non League Yorkshire would like to wish Wilf all the best for the future.
