Maltby is hero as Campion knock Avenue out

West Riding County Cup First Round

Campion hero Jake Maltby

Jake Maltby’s last minute long range beauty caused a shock in the West Riding County Cup as Campion knocked out local rivals Bradford (Park Avenue) in a 2-1 win.

The tie was heading for penalties until young midfielder Maltby made himself the hero.

Avenue named a strong side and Mark Bower’s men’s good start suggested a straight-forward night for them.

Nicky Clee was the goal-scorer from a free kick.

However, goal machine Luke Rhodes equalised by converting from a corner.

Both sides had chances as the game wore on before Maltby’s dramatic intervention.

Thackley’s Ben Grech-Brooksbank

Two late goals earned in-form Thackley a 2-0 win at Goole AFC.

Ben Grech-Brooksbank and Owen Murphy scored in the last ten minutes.
