Toolstation NCEL Premier Division Round-Up
Mitch Dunne’s double in the 2-1 defeat of Penistone Church propelled Handsworth up to fifth.
Dunne’s penalty – almost a Panenka gone wrong spot kick – and second half strike were the difference for Jason Dodsworth and Aiden Spowage’s side.
Handsworth were awarded a penalty on the stroke of half-time after Dunne had been fouled.
Former Maltby Main striker Dunnne went for the risky Panenka and hit the underside of the crossbar.
Fortunately for him the ball bounced over-the-line – although he did race in to head home to make sure.
After Dunne scored his second, Nathan Keightley gave Penistone late hope.
Goalkeeper Ben Townsend was outstanding for Handsworth, earning himself the man of the match award.
Townsend saved numerous efforts throughout, including one he had to tip onto the crossbar.
Penistone also hit the bar on another occasion when Handsworth led by the solitary goal.
The win is Handsworth’s second consecutive success in the league and third on the trot for new joint bosses Dodsworth and Spowage.
Luck continues to elude Hemsworth Miners Welfare who went down 2-0 at Winterton Rangers.
Jack Varley and former Selby Town striker Josh Walker did the damage.
Hemsworth remain stranded in the bottom two, six points adrift of safety.
