Steels sign defender before draw with giants Marske

NPL Division One East

New Stocksbridge Park Steels defender Lee Cooksey

Stocksbridge Park Steels signed Sheffield FC defender Lee Cooksey hours before the impressive 2-2 draw with North East giants Marske United.

The experienced player is Ian Richards’ third signing at Stocksbridge behind Kurtis Turner and Jack Tinker.

Cooksey has had a few spells with Sheff Club, alongside stints with Belper Town and Rainworth Miners Welfare.

He was on the bench during the draw with Marske when the Steels became only the second team to take points off the fancied side.

The other side is unstoppable leaders Liversedge.

Stocksbridge were outstanding against big guns Marske.

Scott Ruthven even put them ahead after scoring at the back-post from a free kick.

The lead did not last long as former York City Wembley finalist Adam Boyes equalised.

It did look like heart-break though as Craig Gott scored a spot kick for Marske, seemingly winning it for Marske.

However, a handball saw a penalty awarded in the last minute and Luke Mangham held his nerve to convert it.
