Buttle is hero as Ferriby defeat Hallam

Substitute Danny Buttle was North Ferriby’s hero in their win over title rivals Hallam in front of over 500 people.

The long-term impact of the result will unfold in the coming months but for the moment it propels North Ferriby into second place and ends Hallam’s 12 game unbeaten run.

Ferriby are also the first side to stop Hallam scoring in the league this season.

Jamie Forrester had the first chance of the fantastic advert for Northern Counties East League football.

His shot was shot by Hallam stopper Myles Wright.

Recent signing Josh Whiteley hit the post as Ferriby continued to probe for the opener.

The forward was denied again towards the end of the first half by a tremendous save from Wright.

Ferriby goalkeeper Jordan Douglas played his part in the second half by saving Liam Scully’s goal-bound effort.

With 23 minutes remaining the experienced Buttle, thrown on at half-time proved to be the man of the big occasion after slipping in and scoring after an initial shot was saved.

Hallam had Brandon Bradbury and Steve Wankiewicz sin-binned at different points, hindering the search for an equaliser.

Ferriby were unable to double their lead but Forrester smashed the crossbar.

Hallam were also unlucky to have an equaliser ruled out for offside at the death.
