National North Round-Up
Chorley 2-1 Farsley Celtic
Managerless Farsley Celtic, led by under 23s boss Neil Ross, cruelly fell to defeat at Chorley.
Farsley started the better side, having an early goal disallowed.
However they did actually take the lead in the 20th minute when Jordan Richard’s cross was headed down by Tyler Walton, allowing Lewis Turner to volley into the back of the net.
Farsley’s lead lasted only 16 minutes though before Chorley found their equaliser.
It was Billy Whitehouse who got it via a deflection and the crossbar.
Chorley almost took the lead shortly after, with Connor Hall forcing ‘keeper Harry Wright into a great save.
The game looked to be heading for a 1-1 draw but The Celts were robbed of any points by a Millenic Alli header.
Farsley went home empty-handed courtesy of that late Chorley winner in the 88th minute and now sit in 15th in the National League North table.
Alfreton Town 5-1 Bradford (Park Avenue)
Bradford (Park Avenue) slumped to a heavy defeat away at Alfreton in a 5-1 thumping.
1-0 Alfreton right from the off and it was clear things weren’t going to get much better for the Avenue. It was 2-0 to the hosts as they grabbed a second three minutes later.
Alfreton were cruising on 10 minutes as they added a third and Bradford Park Avenue already knew this was going to be a long, hard match.
Luckily for them though, the half finished at 3-0 but lacked quality in every area and would be lucky to have many more chances in the second half.
However, the visitors pulled one back through Adam Nowakowski but it ended up counting as only a consolation goal as Alfreton restored their 3 goal cushion with 15 left to play.
One more goal was to come for them though, former Avenue player Conor Branson with it.
Other goalscorers for the home side in this awful thrashing were Dayle Southwell, Yusifu Ceesay, Bailey Hobson and Elliott Reeves.
The Green Army drop down to 19th, 2 points off the relegation zone.
Darlington 5-1 Guiseley
It was a similar story for threabare Guiseley as they also took a 5-1 drubbing.
Darlington controlled them throughout the game and in the end, it just wasn’t their day.
Darlington got their noses in front on 9 minutes with Jack Lambert opening the scoring.
The home side seemed to keep attacking and threatening the Guiseley goal but it took them until the 44th minute to break through and grab a second – former York striker Jake Cassidy claiming it.
The second half entertained the crowd of 1202 with another 4 goals.
The Quakers scored from the penalty spot early on in the half through captain Will Hatfield however Guiseley pulled a goal back half way through it with Lewis Hey scoring The Lions’ only goal of the game.
Darlo went on to score two more goals to seal the deal.
Jake Cooper and Junior Mondal scored the 4th and the 5th goal to see Darlington claim all 3 points in a 5-1 victory.
Guiseley will be thoroughly disappointed with both the performance and the result. They now sit in 17th, 2 points of relegation, where it is looking very close down there.
