West Riding County Cup
Golcar United 2-2p Steeton
Steeton won 5-4 on penalties after Toby Jeffrey’s last minute equalising worldie completed a miraculous recovery in the First Round tie at old foes Golcar United.
Golcar were seemingly waltzing into the next round after 20 minutes as they were 2-0 up and tearing Steeton apart.
Joint managers Ash and Gav Connor will have been sick as parrots at the end with Steeton boss Roy Mason leading his side to another memorable victory in Huddersfield.
At one point it was going to be a long night – especially when Alex Hallam blasted home after Steeton goalkeeper Stuart Cross saved the initial shot in the second minute.
Ben Burnett then added the second goal with a close range finish on the half-hour mark.
Steeton, very fortunate not to be further behind, gained a foothold on the stroke of half-time thanks to Jahro Parchment.
But they had to wait until all hope looked lost for the equaliser and it was sensational – Jeffrey finding the top corner with a 25-yard strike.
Jeffrey was a hero in the shootout as well as he scored the penalty which enabled Cross to win it with a save from Golcar’s Jacob Buchanan.
