Biggest Influence on Football Career

My parents as a child I traveled all over and for them to commit to taking me is a massive trigger to try be the best I can! Also working with CFD (city football development) Nelly (Neil Sanderson) and Bob Whitwell, Russ Howarth coached me for hours on a Friday and gave me opportunities that I will always be grateful for.

Career Highlight

Reaching the North Riding cup final with Pickering Town. Playing at the at a professional stadium is always a dream come true, unfortunately we lost 3-1 to Whitby Town.

Most Memorable Game

Most memorable game I’ve played is was for Garforth against Harrogate Railway! We drew 2-2 and I saved two penalties against Sean Hunter and Sam Barker who in a few weeks were wearing the same colours.

Lowest Moment

Garforth Town manager Paul Marshall
Former Garforth Town manager Rob Hunter brought Toby Wells back to Non League Football

Probably falling out of love with the game, I was with Marshy (Paul Marshall) at Pickering but couldn’t commit to traveling each week! I ended up playing left back for Tadcaster Magnets, before Rob Hunter got me back playing in the NCEL for Garforth.

Biggest Regret in Football

You can’t have any regrets really in football,as long as your enjoying yourself and play football with a smile and set your self goals to exceed that season! Football can be tough at times! It’s a long season and always opportunities!

Funniest Moment in Football

One of the funniest moments in football was the first 15 minutes of one of Marshy’s first games away (for Garforth)! Struggling for a team, he brought his lad Charlie in! Think he left his touch in the car for that fifteen minutes! He went on two score two I believe, and hasn’t looked back, he’s got the desire and hopefully will progress through the leagues.

First semi-professional manager

Mitch Cook was Toby Wells’ first manager

First non league manager was Mitch Cook, a no nonsense old scold manager, he had the respect of all the players! He’s had some good teams and players along the way.

Most Memorable Save

My first save is the most memorable we were playing against Heanor For Pickering I was only 16 and Kev Martin got injured I had to step up! I made a save to my right from a header at a corner six yards out! Think we went on to win the game!

First Red Card

My first red card was not to long ago just before the second look down! I had a rush of blood and came charging out unfortunately for the Maltby player I caught him in the chest with my shoulder after realising I wasn’t getting there. After that think i served a 9 month ban! With no football being played!

What do you want to achieve in football in the future?

Just keep enjoying football and playing with a good set of lads that want the best for the club.

Favourite Non League Ground

Favourite non league ground would have to be Pickering or Garforth bias maybe! They are both similar always a great playing service and a following that would cheer and follow all over.
