Handsworth 2-4 Goole AFC
Red hot Luke Williams scored twice in the final four minutes to complete his hat-trick and snatch a late victory for never-say-die Goole AFC whose third straight win sent up to eighth in the table.
Mike Carmody’s men fought back from a deficit for the second Saturday running to also become only the second team to win at Handsworth in the league this season.
Although not as dramatic as the 5-4 win at Albion Sports last week, Goole still left it late
Handsworth enjoyed the better of the first half chances.
Goalkeeper Dylan Parkin had to deal with a couple of danger moments – notably when James Oliver shot straight at him from Anthony Mackie’s teasing low cross.
It was actually from the corner stemming from that chance that Handsworth gained the initial foothold on the contest in the 31st minute.
Goole couldn’t clear and eventually home captain Rikki Paylor blasted the ball through a crowd of bodies to score for the second week running.
The response from the visitors was instant.
A foul on Williams just outside the penalty area allowed their captain and top goal-scorer Josh Dacre, playing against his old club, to score his obligatory goal with a deflected free kick.
Goole showed signs of being capable of taking the lead early in the second half.
Target man Liam Parker laid off Williams whose blast was beat away from danger by goalkeeper Alfie Hayes-Daubney.
They then did after Handsworth gave possession away cheaply.
Pontefract Collieries’ youngster Dylan Collington slipped Williams in and the striker clinically shot past the Handsworth goalkeeper.
That was on the hour mark and Handsworth equalised with 20 minutes to go.
A free kick near the right-corner flag was knocked down and Kane Reece used his intelligence to neatly turn and rifle the ball past Parkin.
The game could have gone either way but it was Goole who wanted it more.
Substitute Callum McEwan deserves as much as credit as Williams for his efforts in the grandstand finish.
It was McEwan’s doggedness and desire to win the ball back that teed up the crucial third goal.
He beautifully held off the strong Paylor and then bamboozled him with a clever turn before pinging the ball into the six-yard where Williams couldn’t miss.
The pair were involved again for the killer fourth.
Goole counter attacked down the right with Williams who sent the ball across the pitch to McEwan whose shot was saved.
Williams reacted instantly and netted his third goal of the afternoon to put the icing on the cake for Goole.
What They Said
Handsworth joint manager Aiden Spowage
“Very disappointing and that’s two (disappointing results) on the bounce for us.
“We’ve dropped four points after a good run of form and we’ve gone and done that today.
“We were just not on it at all.
“I thought we were good in the first half and we created chances but we didn’t come out for the second half.
“We didn’t get on the ball and a few were hiding and let us down.
“At 2-2, we’re the home side and we should go on and win the game and with the players we have got we feel we’re good enough to do that.
“It just didn’t happen today.”
Goole AFC manager Mike Carmody
“It was a very good result.
“We looked at their form before we came and they had won eight out of nine games here and there’s not many teams will (win here).
“From start to finish I thought we were outstanding, a good team performance.
“We felt we could win it (when it was 2-2).
“We said at half-time that we had done well to get back into the game and I thought we had played some lovely stuff and created some chances.
“We felt we could win it but we didn’t want to lose it either.
“You probably noticed yourself that the shape changed a little bit but with that shape we are always likely to hit teams on the break as well.”

Think 4-2 was a bit harsh. It was a game that could of gone either way but Goole deserved it for the pressure they put on at the end. Dont know how ref got 8 from 10 he was not consistent enough in my opinion booking players then letting others off for the same offence
