Handsworth 2-0 Grimsby Borough
What a week it has been for Handsworth!
Trounced 7-0 by Emley in midweek, Jason Dodsworth and Aiden Spowage responded in fabulous fashion by impressively putting runaway leaders Grimsby Borough to the sword at Olivers Mount.
Handsworth seized the points with two second half goals – becoming only the third team to beat Grimsby in the league this season.
Anthony Mackie put the wheels in motion with a shot from outside the area straight after the break.
Young Handsworth goalkeeper Joe Bacon kept his side in front on the hour mark with a superb save from Reece York.
Handsworth snatched the second goal with 20 minutes to go.
The Ambers countered and Mitch Dunne added another goal to his lengthy tally.
Grimsby pushed Handsworth as the minutes ticked away but the Ambers weren’t prepared to let a brilliant victory and clean sheet slip through their fingers.
The Teams
Handsworth: Bacon, Mackie, Sykes, Roebuck, Smith, Bagnall, Fewkes, Teasdale, Reece, Harrison, Dunne. Subs: Austin, Paylor, Parkin, Tootle, Baldwin.
Was worth turning out in the terrible weather conditions to see a good grassroot football match. To be honest with results going against Ambers in recent games and the form of Grimsby I was fearing the worst but was glad to be proved wrong. With a couple of changers from the managment team and a solid display from the team got the result they deserved.Hope we carry it on Wedensday at home to Maltby COYA
