NPL Division One East Round-Up (2)
Player/manager Brett Agnew’s wonder goal set up Bridlington Town’s grandstand finish in the 2-1 defeat of Yorkshire Amateur – their second consecutive victory.
The victory lifts Brid to 15th but the hopes of a priceless win were slipping away with 12 minutes to go.
Ross Duggan’s first half penalty gave the Ammers the lead and the Leeds-based side were holding on until Agnew intervened.
Agnew turned his defender with an exquisite turn 30 yards from goal.
He then raced towards the penalty area and got past two defenders before firing the ball low and hard into the right-hand bottom corner.
Spurred on by the moment of magic, Lewis Dennison went on and won it for Brid with a brilliant volley with just three minutes to go.
Laurence Sorhaindo scored a hat-trick in Brighouse Town’s 3-1 win over Frickley Athletic.
Sorhaindo’s early penalty broke the deadlock before Rio Molyneaux equalised for Frickley.
Sorhaindo scored again straight after the break to restore Vill Powell’s men’s lead.
The striker sealed his hat-trick with 20 minutes left after pouncing on the loose ball from a free kick.
Josh Nodder’s wonder goal earned Stocksbridge Park Steels a solitary goal victory in the battle with play-offs rivals Ossett United at Bracken Moor.
Nodder found the top corner with a rocket on the half-hour mark.
