Flashback…On This Week In…

The debut Flashback article proved so popular last week so we have decided to produce as sequel!

This week we look back at a few matches taking place between 12th December and 19th December in the past 13 years and there’s been plenty of memorable moments.

2008

Yorkshire Amateur 3-2 Goole AFC (West Riding County Cup)

Former Yorkshire Amateur manager Graham Hodder

Young Dempsey Smith was Yorkshire Amateur’s last minute of extra-time hero in the upset victory over Goole AFC.

Nathan Thomas and Michael Ranson also netted for Ammers who had been spurned on by Goole chairman Des O’Hearne’s comments to a local newspaper.

In his Non League Journey interview last year, then-manager Graham Hodder said: “In the Yorkshire Evening Post Goole’s chairman Des O’Hearne had said ‘this is a cup we should be winning every year’.

“I cut the article out of the paper and put it on the table and said to the lads ‘look at this lads, this lot should be winning it every year, what’s all this about, they’re coming here on your ground…’”

2009

Yorkshire Amateur 1-4 Pontefract Collieries (NCEL Division One)

Fernando Moke recently scored Yorkshire Amateur’s historic first goal in the NPL

Ryan Williams’ double propelled Simon Houghton’s Pontefract Collieries to fifth placed in the win at Yorkshire Amateur which turned out to be their last game for over a month because of the sustained cold snap.

Hall Road Rangers striker Rich Medcalf

Richard Medcalf haunted his former club Scarborough Athletic as he scored the last minute winner as Dave Anderson’s Barton Town came from the dead to win at Queensgate.
