West Riding County Cup
Harrogate Railway manager Mick O’Connell is taking the West Riding County Cup second round tie with Steeton very seriously.
Railway, who last reached the County Cup final in the 1980s, host Steeton at Station View this evening and O’Connell is not taking Roy Mason’s side for granted.
“We may make some changes just to freshen things up but on the flip side to that we want to be in the quarter-finals of the County Cup,” O’Connell told Non League Yorkshire.
“It is a great opportunity, and Steeton will be saying the same.
“It is a great opportunity for us to get into the quarter finals which is no mean feat.
“It is hard to get into it and Steeton will be a very tough game.
“Roy has them well set-up and they’re good at what they do and they operate quite well.
“They have some exciting young players and they play a good brand of football.
“They have a lot of fast, quick and hungry players who want to develop and play higher and they are very similar to ours.
“It will make for a good game.”
The winner will face Brighouse Town and the game comes a few days after Railway butchered Worsbrough Bridge in Toolstation NCEL Division One action.
Railway stormed into a 4-0 half-time lead but the second half was dogged by fears of an abandonment due to the fog.
“You are always slightly worried (when the fog was like that), especially after playing so well,” O’Connell said.
“When we came out for the second half the fog was getting bad.
“But it did start to lift.
“I saw Garforth was abandoned but I was glad we got to the end of the game.”
